Camp Snipesville

It's A Blast From The Past!

Set in the imaginary sleepy town of Snipesville*, Camp Snipesville is the unlikely site of time- travel adventures to the pasts of two closely-connected nations, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
Far from being the dull place that it appears, Snipesville is full of surprises. Campers never know what to expect next, or which guests might walk in the door.
Camp Snipesville introduces kids to  thinking historically, using a multidisciplinary approach that includes art, music, lots of make-believe, and Imaginative Journeys' hallmark sense of humor.

Here are just some of our themes...

Camp Snipesville: World War II
Whether pretending to be wartime British child evacuees handling real pounds, shillings and pence, or learning how to extinguish an incendiary bomb, campers delve back into the time when the world was at war.

Camp Snipesville: Victorian Adventures
Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901, and a lot changed on both sides of the Atlantic. Kids try their hands at working for a living in a pottery factory...and entering a grim Victorian workhouse. They also put on their best manners for a genteel tea and parlor games.

Camp Snipesville: Back to the Fifties
Hula hoops, classic cars, and Howdy-Doody all make an appearance, but this was also the time of Cold War and Civil Rights. Kids check out this complicated time in Snipesville in the perfect surroundings of a 1951 motel.

*Not to be confused with the *real* Snipesville, Georgia! For the story, read here.

And A Look Back at Our Summer 2010 Programs:
Elemental Journey: Georgia Safari!

led by Brett, with Annette and Lindsey assisting.

A safari in Georgia? You bet! In fact, it'll be even better than a “real” safari, because we’ll get up close and personal with the wildlife, not just view it with binoculars.  We’ll be game hunters without actually shooting anything. Instead, we’ll track wildlife on a habitat scavenger hunt… We’ll get lost in the woods and build shelters to survive in the wild… Put on your Indy hat, and get ready for adventure!

Camp Snipesville: Medieval Mayhem

led by Annette, with Lindsey assisting.
We're in Snipesville, Georgia's secret time-travel portal, and this time, we’re headed to England...Only this time, we find ourselves in the distant past. The Roman Empire has collapsed, so what now? We'll meet the Anglo-Saxons and Normans, build our own model medieval village (Olde Snipesham), learn what it took to be a knight, learn a little Latin, take a pilgrimage--the medieval idea of a vacation-- and try our hands at illuminated manuscripts, tapestry, spinning,  cooking, making medicines, and more! Just watch out for the Black Death and invading Vikings (not necessarily in that order.)
